About Semi-permanent dye

Hi everyone!

Today I would like to share with you about semi-permanent dye, a type of colouring agent commonly used in hair salons.

Semi-permanent dye differs from permant hair dye in that it does not colour your hair through opening the cuticle, decolourising melanin in the cortex and then depositing colour pigments. Rather, it colours your hair through depositing a layer of colour pigments on the cuticles. (See hair structure below)

This means that semi-permanent dye does not has a lightening effect – it is unable to lighten the shade of your hair. In other words, one would not see obvious colour change if one applies semi-permant dye on jet black hair. Colour only shows clearly on pre-bleached hair.

The merits of using semi-permant dye is that the hair colour tend to be brighter than those achieved by permanent dye.

However, on the flip side, it tends to last for a shorter period of time than permanent dye.

Should you have any hair concerns, please feel free to come down for a consultation!
